Joe Rogan is aware of Khalil Rountree Jr.’s “new technique” as he works for fight with Alex Pereira

It seems that the doping ban worked well for Khalil Rountree JrThe 205-pound fighter, ranked No. 8 in the world, had accidentally taken a performance-enhancing drug earlier this year and admitted it to authorities despite not failing any tests. Since he had not knowingly taken the banned substance or with the intent to cheat, he was given a light suspension, forcing him to cancel a scheduled UFC 303 fight in June.

That’s why it was such a shock to the UFC world when Dana White announced that “The War Horse” would fight Alex Pereira in his first fight back from suspension! While fans may feel that Rountree isn’t the most deserving of a shot at 205-pound gold, there is at least one thing fans can look forward to in his UFC 307 title fight with “Poatan.”

MMA isn’t that old. It’s been around thirty years since UFC 1, which was essentially a competition between different martial arts to prove once and for all which was the best. As a standalone sport, MMA has only been around for less than half an hour. And given all the variables that come with the sport due to its hybrid nature, there’s always room for innovation. But there hasn’t been anything new in MMA recently.

However, Khalil Rountree Jr. is determined to change that. The light heavyweight has promised Joe Rogan that he will pull off an “unheard of and unseen” move in his next fight. “When we’re done with this, I’ll show you this crazy sweep thing I’m working on. It’s really cool, I’ll show you and then when you see me, do it in a fight and you think, “Holy shit!” Rountree said this on episode #161 of the JRE MMA Show.

“It’s unseen, unheard of and it’s a mix of what I’ve learned. Like some Muay Thai concepts and like mixed with what I’ve learned in my Jiu-Jitsu… So, in my free time and stretching and just in my artistic spirit, I’ve been thinking about how to combine those two things together.” he added.

While Rogan got a sneak peek of the move off camera, fans will have to wait until the main event of UFC 307 to see it. The move is probably best described as a hybrid, as “The War Horse” has said he combines Muay Thai principles with his BJJ training. A sweep obviously means it has to be a variation of a leg sweep used to take the opponent down. But since it also has elements of grappling, it could be a sweep that seamlessly transitions into a takedown, potentially giving Rountree the upper hand.

It could be something entirely different, nothing can be said for sure until “War Horse” pulls it off. And what better stage to show off a new move and make it unforgettable than a title fight with the promotion’s biggest active star, Alex Pereira? And while most expect “Poatan” to defend his title in their UFC 307 bout, one man has made a bold and polarizing prediction for their fight.

Chael Sonnen predicts Rountree will knock out Pereira

The bookmakers agree in their prediction: Alex Pereira will win and remain light heavyweight champion. After all, Rountree is a striker like “Poatan”, who is a former kickboxing champion and will lose his two UFC titles against a sharpshooter like Israel Adesanyaand a thug like Jiri Prochazka.

Chael Sonnen, however, believes that “The War Horse” “Walk through” Pereira. Why? Well, because Sonnen believes that Rountree excels under pressure from elite strikers. Contrary to popular belief, “Uncle Chael” was of the opinion that a striker had the advantage in a duel against Pereira for once. So much so that Sonnen expects a knockout.

“He [Rountree] does his absolute best work when he’s being attacked by a kickboxer. It’s not like Khalil is going to surround someone or take them down or force them to submit. He’s a counter-fighter and he loves it when you hit or kick him first.” he said.

Sonnen believes this fight proves that the UFC isn’t trying to “protect” Pereira, their biggest current moneymaker, by giving him another striker to fight. However, that’s a view most fans and bookmakers don’t share. However, Sonnen has provided an argument for those who want Rountree to win. What are your predictions for Pereira-Rountree?
