Temperatures are significantly lower in Houston, but there is a risk of storms every day this week

Forecast for Tuesday:

HOUSTON – Monday was the first day since July 28 with temperatures below 90°. The high in Houston was 88°.

That’s because the rain kept it cool! A similar weather pattern is expected on Tuesday and for most of the week. Tuesday morning will see most of the activity south of I-10. As the afternoon progresses, the rain will move north of I-10 and become more widespread.

There is a higher probability of rain during the day on Tuesday. The probability is 40%. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

Where does this rain come from?

The hot ridge of high pressure that scorched Texas last week has moved north into the Midwest, creating the opportunity for a steady stream of Gulf moisture, keeping the chance of daily rain throughout the work week.

On the trail of the tropics:

There are finally signs of life in the tropics. We are monitoring an area where our next named storm could form. The next name on the list is Francine. It has a 20% chance of forming in the next seven days.

10-day forecast:

There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms every day in the 10-day forecast. These aren’t all-out downpours, but rather scattered showers and thunderstorms. That means you shouldn’t cancel any outdoor plans for Labor Day weekend, but keep in mind that a few thunderstorms could move through.

If you’re looking for cooler weather, we expect a gradual cooldown in September. Our average high temperature drops to 88° by the end of the month. Our average low temperature drops to 67° – thank goodness!

The hottest September we’ve ever experienced was 109° and the coolest was 45°! That’s a range of 64°! (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

Although we expect our temperatures to drop seasonally, the Climate Prediction Center expects temperatures to remain above average throughout the month across most of the U.S. As a reminder, our last 100-degree day was September 27, following Hurricane Rita.
