Hottest and wettest day today

Hottest and wettest day today

LANSING, Michigan — After a few hot, muggy days, prepare for our hottest, muggiest day of the season on Tuesday. After a warm and muggy Monday night, temperatures will climb to the 35-40s Tuesday afternoon. But that’s not the only part of the story. Of course, it will be very muggy, so the heat index should climb to near 38 degrees in the afternoon and early evening. If you must do something outside, take it easy.

We’ll also have a few showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. These thunderstorms will do what’s called “running the ridge.” It’s pretty difficult to pinpoint an exact direction and time. The first chance will be in the morning. Then there will be a lull for much of the day, allowing the atmosphere to get hot and humid. That’s a lot of energy for the next round of potential thunderstorms that would start in the late afternoon or evening. We may need to keep an eye on a few of these, as they could bring gusty winds or hail. Lows Tuesday night will be around 70.

On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures are expected to be a little less hot, with maximum temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees. There may be thunderstorms again on Friday.

Expect a pattern change through Sunday and especially next Monday, when you’ll feel a hint of fall on Monday with highs only reaching 70 degrees.
