Interstate 25 northbound in Castle Pines closed after accident and car fire

One person was killed in a car crash and fire on Interstate 25 in Castle Pines on Monday, closing the northbound highway for more than four hours.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, northbound I-25 reopened at 8:38 p.m.

Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash on northbound I-25 near Ridgegate Parkway at 4 p.m., Lone Tree police officials said in a news release.

The vehicle was traveling north on I-25 when the driver struck a median and the vehicle caught fire, police officials said.

South Metro Fire Department officials said An electric vehicle was involved in the accident and the car was “fully on fire”.

The driver succumbed to his injuries, Lone Tree police said.
