Family mourns 6 cats who died in house fire

A family of three is mourning the loss of their first home after their Tesla caught fire in the garage on August 25.

“I woke up and suddenly I was running for my life,” said Aimee Yem, the victim of the house fire. “I remember praying for the fire truck to come.”

The biggest loss was suffered by homeowners Andrew Baek and Aimee Yem, who lost six of their cats in the fire.

“They are all siblings and have the same mother,” said Yem.

Baek and Yem say they tried their best to save the pets, but it all happened so quickly.

“I rushed to change my clothes and even the cat scratched me because I tried to grab some of them as I ran out,” Yem said.

Yem also says: “I think they were panicking because when the fire alarm went off they all ran under the bed.”

They say they have no answer as to how the fire started and are still waiting for an official statement from the Clark County Fire Department.

“We didn’t have anything in the garage, so it’s a mystery to us right now,” Yem said. “But we know it was the Tesla that kept starting because we saw the fire.”

“It’s heartbreaking,” Baek said. “You work so hard for all of this. One day it’s totally normal and the next it’s literally on fire.”

“We have a lot of cat furniture all over the walls and floor and now everything is just covered in black,” Yem said.

Baek says he is not sure if they will ever be able to return to the place they called home.

“It’s the what-ifs that kill. Right now, I’m just grateful for what we can do. I’m just grateful that my girls are at least out. That’s the most I can ask for,” Baek says.
