Heatwave leads to schedule changes for schools and field workers

TROY, Ohio (WKEF) – Due to extreme heat forecast, schools and field teams will have to change their schedules this week.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat index warning for Tuesday and Wednesday. Troy City Schools posted on their website that due to the heat index warning, all TCS reports on those days will be issued two days early.

Horizon Science Academy Dayton Elementary is closed Tuesday. It was closed Monday due to a power outage.

Celina City Schools announced on Facebook that students in grades 7 through 12 will be dismissed two hours early on Tuesday. The top students will continue to follow the regular schedule.

Rumpke’s teams will be working early every day for the rest of the week, August 27-30, to serve as many customers as possible before the region is hit by the forecasted extreme heat.

“Safety is our top priority,” said operations manager Ben Rumpke. “The high temperatures forecast for the coming weeks make our work more dangerous. To protect our team members from heat-related illnesses and ensure that customers can still pick up their goods on time, we have to adapt our processes.”

Rumpke advises customers that garbage and recyclables should always be placed at the side of the road in the evening.

Placing the material at the curb the evening before the scheduled pickup can help avoid missed pickups as start times must be adjusted for weather and traffic conditions.
