Circumstances of the death of the young deputy sheriff are being investigated

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Officials with the Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) reported the death of a deputy sheriff who recently completed the Law Enforcement Recruit Class.

In a press release Monday, the department said Jordan J. Kagehiro’s body was recently found in his home. The details of his death were unclear and are currently under investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.

DLE said that Deputy Kagehiro completed the extensive training course on December 15, 2023, and that he has demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication throughout. They added that he is admired by his colleagues and leads by example.

“The department and our community have lost a great young deputy sheriff and we will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Kagehiro’s family, loved ones and friends, as well as the members of the department and law enforcement who have lost this promising officer,” said DLE Director Jordan Lowe.

After graduating, he was assigned to the Central Patrol, which is responsible for downtown Honolulu.

DLE added that he has a passion for law enforcement and has a promising career ahead of him in the department. They also said that he is a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

It is unknown if foul play is suspected in this case. According to HPD, this is an investigation into an unattended death.
