Who: Studio Argus

Architect Margit Argus brings more than 20 years of experience in interior design, fine art and architecture to her young and fast-growing architecture studio. The Tallinn-based practice is rooted in a Nordic aesthetic, combining local Estonian vernacular with a keen attention to detail. Current projects include a beachfront hotel in Tallinn, a residential high-rise and university campus in Tallinn, as well as a handful of schools and family homes.

“The opportunity to create unique, functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces; the ability to translate vision into tangible structures is a powerful incentive for us,” says Argus, but “the biggest influence on Studio Argus’ work is our commitment to combining historical preservation with contemporary innovation. This approach guides our work, where we seek to honor the past while creating functional, modern spaces.”

What: House in Suurupi

The beautifully minimalist house in Suurupi is one of the studio’s latest residential projects. Designed as an archetypal gabled house, the home for a private family is made of natural materials and blends into its forest surroundings as it sits on a large, tree-filled plot. The interiors are spacious, offering Nordic brightness, functionality and plenty of natural light, combining high-quality materials with warm natural tones.

The living spaces of the house include a main seating area, the dining room, an open kitchen, a home cinema and a sauna complex. The whole was designed to enter into dialogue with the green surroundings, which almost always remain visible through the large windows of the property. The project was created in collaboration with the Estonian architectural studio LUMIA.
