Salon damaged in building fire in Northeast DC – NBC4 Washington

Ronda Boyd’s hair salon used to be a place of joy and laughter as she and students from the Benning Career Institute offered free back-to-school haircuts to young people in her Washington, DC, neighborhood.

On Monday afternoon, Ronda Boyd received a panicked call. The salon was destroyed after a fire ravaged a commercial building in the 2500 block of Bladensburg Road Northeast.

The building’s age made the response difficult, News4 learned. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

A construction worker on the second floor was trapped and was rescued by the fire department.

Due to the fire, a daycare center in the adjacent building also had to be evacuated. Eight preschool children were quickly brought to safety by employees.

On the ground floor, the hairdressing salon and barber shop were devastated.

“We can’t go back into the building,” Boyd said. “So five years of building my business, my dream, are over.”

Known for helping her community, Boyd now needs help of her own as she begins the difficult task of getting the salon back on its feet.

“We need your prayers, that’s the most important thing,” Boyd said. “We’re thankful that no one was hurt. We need your prayers, we need your support from the community, because everything is lost.”
