Woodland Hills doctor may be target of shooting – NBC Los Angeles

A Woodland Hills doctor who was shot outside the emergency room where he worked may have been targeted, police say.

Dr. Hamid Mirshojae’s patients are still grappling with the physician’s violent death after a gunman opened fire on him over the weekend. Police said the shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. Friday on Topanga Canyon Boulevard as the doctor was walking to his car.

Now there are several candles, flowers and sweet messages at the place where Mirshojae took her life.

“I am deeply heartbroken,” said Pania Mazaheri, one of the doctor’s patients. “I am at a loss for words. It is really depressing.”

Patients and friends gathered outside a Woodland Hills clinic after a popular doctor was shot as he got into his car. Camilla Rambaldi reports for NBC4 News on August 24, 2024 at 8 p.m.

LAPD investigators said they are searching for at least one person responsible for the killing. The motive for the shooting is unclear, but police are considering the possibility that the shooting was intentional.

“He would do anything for you,” Mazaheri said. “If you needed anything, he was always there for you, 24/7.”

According to a colleague of Mirshojae, he was the only doctor at Warner Plaza Medical Center. The clinic’s website said he was a general practitioner specializing in emergency care and was also an expert in osteopathic treatment.

“He was always happy,” said Sina Rafia, a work colleague of the victim. “He always laughed and was always a loving person.”

Further details of the shooting were not immediately clear.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the LAPD Topanga station at 818-756-4800. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
