Debate between Trump and Harris could be derailed by “hot mic” dispute – Ex-president on preparations: “I think I have been preparing my whole life”

The upcoming US presidential debate has become a battlefield, with Donald Trump And Kamala HarrisABC teams disagree over the use of open microphones. Trump threatened to withdraw from the event and accused ABC of bias, according to a Reuters report.

What happened: Trump, who is running in his third presidential campaign, hinted at his non-participation in the debate hosted by ABC in a social media post on Sunday. He questioned the network’s impartiality and wrote: “Why would I debate Kamala Harris on this network?”

On Monday, Harris’ spokeswoman Brian Fallonexpressed the vice president’s campaign’s desire for the candidates’ microphones to remain on throughout the event. This is in contrast to the previous presidential debate, where the microphones were muted while the other candidate spoke. Fallon urged Trump to “stop hiding behind the mute button.”

In response, Trump’s campaign adviser said: Jason Millerstated that they had agreed to the same terms as the CNN debate in June, which included muted microphones. He refused to make any changes to the agreed-upon rules. However, Trump later expressed his preference for his microphone to remain on, expressing his dislike for the mute option used in the last debate.

“I don’t spend a lot of time on it. I think I’ve been preparing for a debate my whole life,” Trump said, according to the report.

“You can’t memorize 30 years of knowledge in a week. So you have to prepare a bit for the debate, but I’ve always done it more or less the same way.”

ABC has not yet commented on these developments. The debate agreed upon by Biden and Trump is scheduled for September 10.

Why it is important: The debate between Vice President Harris and Republican candidate Trump on September 10 is seen as a major event. However, Trump’s recent social media post has raised doubts about his participation, as he complains of alleged bias by the ABC network, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company.

A recent Rasmussen poll, which may be an outlier, found Trump ahead of Harris by three percentage points, even though Harris was ahead in most polls. The poll was conducted before major political events, including the Democratic National Convention and the suspension of Robert Kennedy Jr.’s campaign.

Harris had a slight lead in the betting odds, but the race remained close, with Trump slightly ahead in some prediction markets. Harris also had the edge in key polls in swing states.
