(ABC 6 News) – The hottest day of the summer also happened to be move-in day for students at the University of Minnesota.

On Monday, about 2,300 freshmen moved in, trying to keep a cool head while moving their belongings into the dorms.

The university did its best to keep everyone cool by handing out water and keeping the air-conditioned buildings open late into the night Monday into Sunday.

However, due to the strong emotions and temperatures, the conditions for the parade were somewhat more difficult.

“[The air is] very humid, you can hardly breathe, you can only think,” said sophomore volunteer Jen Horne. “When you go outside, you just sweat. It doesn’t feel good.”

Another 2,400 students are expected to move in on Tuesday, hopefully in much cooler temperatures.
