AAA offers Labor Day travel tips

AAA offers Labor Day travel tips

If you’re traveling this Labor Day weekend, AAA has some tips for you.

Adrienne Woodland of AAA of Michigan tells us that Labor Day travel is expected to increase 9%, while travel costs will decrease by about 2%, due to lower gasoline prices, which she attributes to low crude oil prices.

Woodland says everyone should be prepared before heading out on a road trip.

“Nationally, AAA expects to rescue more than 300,000 stranded motorists over Labor Day weekend,” Woodland said. “The top three reasons are flat tires, dead batteries and lockouts. So some of these things can be avoided if you have your vehicle checked before you drive. You’ll want to look at things like your tires, the life of your battery, your engine oil and other fluids.”

Woodland says the worst days to travel are Thursday and Friday. The worst times to travel on Thursday are between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The worst times to travel on Friday are between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. She recommends leaving at times other than those listed.

Woodland says it is particularly annoying that holidaymakers mingle with regular commuters on the streets on Labor Day.
