Pixel Watch Update: Wear OS 5 is being rolled out for the first and second generation of the Google smartwatch

The monthly Pixel Watch update is here and this time it not only includes the usual security improvements, but also brings a much larger package in September – because it is the upgrade to the current operating system Wear OS 5. The update, which will be rolled out over the next two weeks, is based on Android 15 and brings the Pixel Watch to patch level AW2A.240903.005.A2 and the Pixel Watch 2 to patch level AW2A.240903.005.A1.

Much more important, of course, is the jump to the new Wear OS 5. This brings a number of improvements that have recently been seen on the new Pixel Watch 3 in recent months. This includes a new media output switcher that allows you to specify which device the audio stream should be played on. A new addition is a privacy dashboard for a quick overview of app permissions. There is also an update for the health services, which can now recognize even more movement patterns.

Purely visually, there is support for Watch Face Format 2, which supports flavors. These are more complex features that can show the weather, a detailed heart rate, a graphical representation of sports activity goals, or a flexible progress indicator for any other data points.
