Clean Clothes Campaign calls for higher wages for textile workers

It is not enough: After bloody protests, the Bangladesh government has raised the minimum wage for the 4.4 million garment workers in Bangladesh to 12,500 taka per month (106 euros). But that is still far below the 23,000 taka that unions are demanding and which studies have shown is necessary for a decent life in Bangladesh.

On the first global “Living Wage Action Day” this Wednesday, the Clean Clothes Campaign is once again calling for the wage gap for textile workers to be closed immediately. According to the NGO, garment workers in Bangladesh, Serbia and Cambodia receive just a quarter of the salary they need for a decent life.
