JD Vance says he doesn’t have to “prepare as much” for vice presidential debate against Walz

Senator JD Vance has said he doesn’t need to “prepare as much” for next week’s vice presidential debate against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, adding that he will not attend any boot camp or crash course ahead of the forum.

“We have well-developed views on public policy, so we don’t have to do a lot of preparation,” Vance (Republican of Ohio) told the Post at a press conference on Wednesday.

The New York Times has reported that Walz will attend a “multi-day debate camp” in rural Michigan later this week to prepare for the CBS News-hosted debate against Vance on October 1 in New York.

Both President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris chose to remain silent for several days before their respective debates against former President Donald Trump.

“We have no plans to do anything similar,” Vance confirmed on Wednesday.

“We will focus on me being as precise and direct as possible [an] “Appeal to the American people as best you can to the successful policies of Donald Trump and the failed policies of Kamala Harris.”

“Kamala Harris’ record is one of ugly food, unaffordable housing and Americans losing their jobs,” Vance continued.

“So I don’t think we need to do a lot of preparation, because we don’t need to hide our record from the American people – we just need to talk about it.”

Both Walz and Vance participate in mock debates to prepare for their confrontation.

The governor of Minnesota is using Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as a replacement for Vance, while the senator from Ohio is getting Representative Tom Emmer, the House Majority Whip and Walz’s fellow Minnesotan, to prepare him for the Democrat’s “folk” approach.

Vance has done most of his preparation at his home in Cincinnati, with help from his wife Usha and Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller, a person familiar with the process previously told The Washington Post.
