The Oktoberfest in Munich is also being followed diligently on social networks. One TikTok user is particularly successful – with ride videos.

Munich – Waiters carrying an impressive number of beer mugs, visitors sharing their Oktoberfest outfits and much, much more: During the Oktoberfest in Munich, the internet is full of videos from the world’s largest folk festival. A TikTok user regularly reaches millions of people with his clips.

Wiesn videos get millions of views: ride employee shares clips on TikTok

According to his TikTok account, Dan Luchsbacher is a runner on the famous Toboggan ride. The latter is a real attraction year after year, not only for the Oktoberfest visitors who take part, but especially for those who watch in front of the ride. The principle of the ride is simple: a fast-moving conveyor belt and then stairs lead up to a small tower, from where the passengers then rush back down to the ground on a slide.

Runners and carpet carriers – two special tasks when tobogganing

The runner on the toboggan, as the SZ newspaper once explained, is the highest position on the time-honored ride. They require strength, tact and a sense of responsibility – because the runners help the passengers to manage the conveyor belts. The carpet carrier, meanwhile, is the precursor to the runner – they ensure that the carpets on which the guests slide down the tower get back up again. And, of course, via the conveyor belt. The only difference is that they sometimes carry more than ten carpets. Not an easy task either.

The main attraction and reason for the large number of spectators in front of the ride is the treadmill. Staying on it is not exactly easy, especially after one or two masses. Anyone who manages to do it can look forward to cheers from the audience. Anyone who falls has to listen to a few laughs and get help from one of the runners – this is where TikTok user Dan Luchsbacher comes in. The runner, as Luchsbacher is one, is – alongside the carpet carrier, for example – a fixed position on the toboggan.

On his TikTok account, the toboggan runner shows what it is like for some of the passengers. And in doing so, he reaches an audience of millions. His best clip has almost 240 million views, but there are many others that are well beyond the million mark.

Toboggan fun on TikTok: millions of clicks – but no room for ridicule and malice

The current enthusiasm for the videos probably lies in the excitement that the Oktoberfest visitors also feel in front of the ride – it revolves entirely around the question: will the next candidate manage to stay standing? If the toboggan passengers don’t succeed and stumble wildly trying to stay on their feet, it can certainly cause a few laughs. To ensure that the gloating doesn’t turn nasty, comments have been turned off on the “danluchsbacher” account. This way, the joy and fun don’t turn into nasty mockery. (fhz)
