The best golfers in the world will come together for the 2024 Presidents Cup at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday before the first round.

The celebrations mark the start of the premier international soccer tournament, with the sport’s most famous faces vying for the coveted trophy won by the Americans in 2022.

When and how can spectators follow the events in Montreal as the USA competes against an international team consisting of the other best golfers in the world outside of Europe?

Find out with this preview.

Date: Thursday, September 26

Time: 30 minutes before first tee time (approximately 11:35 a.m. ET)

The United States remained undefeated on home soil in 2022, defeating the international team at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

Then-rookie Scottie Scheffler led the USA, closely followed by Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

Scheffler’s inconsistent play in this event (0-3-1) raises the question: If he struggles again on this stage, can the International team take advantage and claim its first victory since 1998?

There are plenty of questions on that side of the competition as well, as there is no obvious player who can counter Scheffler or Schauffele. While the Americans have one or two players they can rely on, the International team has a handful of experienced players who can play well but are not sure-fire bets.

However, Scheffler is a better player than he was the last time he led the U.S. team. He won his first FedEx Cup and became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to record seven Tour victories.

The 28-year-old is at the peak of his career and is unlikely to be able to repeat his performance in his Presidents Cup debut.

The Americans are the favoriteswith greater squad depth than their opponents. Max Homa was 4-0 in 2022 and Cantlay and Schauffele both have a record of 6-3 in previous tournaments.

Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott and Jason Day all have plenty of experience but also have losing records at this event. South Koreans Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im are the only members of the international team with winning records.

On paper, the Americans should win their tenth Presidents Cup in a row.
