The new MMORPG Throne and Liberty on Steam and PS5 already has server problems, even though it hasn’t even started yet

Throne and Liberty will soon open its doors, but even before its release, the new MMORPG is struggling with problems on Steam and PS5.

What kind of problems are there? To ensure that everyone can enjoy the new MMORPG Throne and Liberty right from the start, the developers have announced a pre-download for 48 hours before the launch. This should start on September 24th at 7:00 p.m. German time.

While downloads on the PlayStation are lost at 7 p.m. sharp, players on the PC are left with greyed-out download buttons. The first posts from players started shortly after 7 p.m. on Reddit and in the game’s Steam forum, asking whether they were the new ones who were having the problems. It quickly became clear, however, that everyone on Steam was sitting in front of the grey buttons.

Have the developers contacted you? On the official Discord server, the developer announced at 8:11 p.m. that they had looked into the complaints of players who had complained about the lack of a pre-download for Free2Play players. However, the issue here is that Free2Play players were originally not supposed to have a pre-download.

This message did not refer to the acute problems with Steam. The players were correspondingly confused because they still did not see a download button. The players were only able to download the game at around 8:30 p.m. There has been no message from the developers so far.

What other problems were there? While the players were probably still sitting in front of their ongoing downloads, the “Siege the Day” event started at 11 p.m. The event was primarily intended to introduce new players to the endgame of Throne and Liberty.

Content creators and well-known guilds from North America were invited to show what the new MMORPG has to offer for a few hours.

While everything went well at the beginning, there were problems with the big highlight of the stream. The livestream was actually supposed to end with the big siege battle. This only takes place every few weeks in the MMORPG and only the best guilds are allowed to take part.

Several thousand people were watching the live stream on Twitch when the stream suddenly stopped. The developers tried several times to restart the stream and were then online for a few minutes, but the problem did not only affect the stream itself.

The in-game server for Throne and Liberty also went offline at the same time. Some fans say that even the website went offline. It was pretty bitter for the fans, as many of the viewers were watching to receive rewards in the form of Twitch drops.

How did the developers react? The developers have decided to cancel the “Siege the Day” event. On their Discord server they write:

Unfortunately, due to network configuration issues with our event environment, we will not be able to run the remainder of Siege the Day as planned. We are working to resolve these issues and will return tomorrow. Until then, we will be closing this channel. Thank you again for your support and we will see you again soon!

What happens to the Twitch Drops? To ensure that players don’t miss out completely, the developers kept their stream running for another 10 minutes to give players the opportunity to receive their drops. But it ended at 5:00 p.m. local time.

Not enough for some users, because the interruptions meant that not everyone could secure their rewards and Twitch’s tracking didn’t always work reliably.

Two technical problems with the new MMORPG in one evening are probably not a particularly good sign. In all forums, players are discussing what the release will be like long before the event. Many believe that it is waiting for a release like New World, when there were endless queues: New World: Biggest rush for a new MMORPG in 2 years – Huge queues
