A suspect shot and killed a passenger on an MTA bus in Los Angeles early Wednesday morning before hijacking the vehicle and leading police on a wild chase for over an hour before being arrested by a SWAT team, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) told Fox News Digital.

The dramatic incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. when police received a 911 call about a shooting and subsequent bus robbery at the corner of Figaro Street and Manchester Avenue.

Police say the suspect shot at least one person before forcing the driver to drive north at gunpoint. During the first phase of the hijacking, other passengers were seen getting off the bus, police said.

A bus hijacking and subsequent chase took place in Los Angeles early Wednesday, in which a suspect shot and killed a passenger and then engaged police in an hours-long chase.

The LAPD SWAT team finally stopped the bus at 2:05 a.m. near the intersection of South Alameda Street and 6th Street, about five miles northeast of where the original kidnapping had occurred.

Police used nail barriers to slow the vehicle, and it eventually came to a stop before the suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle.
