Amazon’s next entry-level Kindle with brighter screen leaked

With stocks of the current generation of e-readers dwindling, Amazon is expected to announce new Kindles soon, possibly as early as next week. A Spanish retailer has a listing for a new 2024 version of the entry-level Kindle with a September 30 release date, it has been discovered Good e-reader.

The new Kindle will have a six-inch, 300ppi screen with improved contrast and a backlight that’s 25 percent brighter than the model Amazon released two years ago. It will also offer faster page turning and a new dark mode that inverts its monochromatic E Ink screen, but there’s no mention of it having warm screen lighting or whether it will have the improved E Ink Carta 1200 screen that Amazon used on the 11th-generation Kingle Paperwhite that launched in 2021.

The new 12th-generation Kindle will be slightly lighter than its predecessor – 154 grams compared to 158 grams – and will have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a USB-C port, 16GB of storage and a battery that should last up to eight weeks per charge. It will be available in at least two color options, black and matcha green.

MediaMarkt is offering it for 119 euros, but doesn’t mention whether that’s with or without advertising. When the 11th generation Kindle came out two years ago, it cost $99.99 with lock screen ads and $119.99 without ads.
