Grosse Pointe assault case linked to podcast investigation

GROSSE POINTE, Mich. – Charges are brought against a known family member in Big Point.

Local 4 Investigator Karen Drew spoke with Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, who said he will be filing charges against Bill Matouk Jr. for aggravated assault, and it all revolves around his alleged collision with a promotional truck.

If you live in the Gross Pointes, you’ve probably seen the truck driving around promoting a podcast about the death of Joann Matouk, a metro Detroit mother who police say walked into frozen Lake St. Clair and committed suicide in 2010.

The podcast presents a different theory.

An eyewitness reported to police that on June 30, 2024, he saw a white van accelerate and intentionally crash into the billboard truck. According to the police report, Bill was driving.

We don’t usually cover car accidents, but this is different. There was an eyewitness, damage, and a police report saying it was an intentional accident, but nothing was done about the case for seven weeks.

The case was referred to Wayne Countyto the Agricultural Office and now to the Macomb County Prosecutor due to a conflict of interest.

After calling the Macomb County District Attorney on Monday morning (August 26) to inquire about the case, we were informed a few hours ago that charges of aggravated assault were being filed.

We have been reporting on the Matouk family for over a decadeand we know that Joann’s children are still seeking justice for their mother’s death.

Officials say it was suicide, but the Matouk family disagrees. We have investigated Joannes’ death in detail, see below.
