Only a few days after the final defeat in Thailand, Siegemund fails early.

Laura Siegemund and Tamara Korpatsch failed in the first round of the China Open in Beijing. A few days after her defeat in the final in Hua Hin, Thailand, Siegemund had to admit defeat to Ukrainian Yulia Starodubzewa in two sets with 4:6 and 6:7.

The 36-year-old became the best German tennis player thanks to her participation in the final of the WTA tournament in Thailand. She climbed 30 places in the world rankings and is now in 69th place, ahead of Jule Niemeier (Dortmund/83rd) and Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau/85th).

Korpatsch also did not make it past the first round of the 1000 tournament in China. The Hamburg native lost to the French Clara Burel 3:6, 7:5 and 3:6 after entering the main round as a lucky loser.
