The German football champions Bayer Leverkusen celebrated an impressive victory in their Champions League debut. In the Werkself’s first game after almost two years in the European champions’ class, coach Xabi Alonso’s team won 4-0 (4-0) at Feyenoord Rotterdam. The national player Florian Wirtz in particular was in top form.

The 21-year-old scored the 1-0 for the visitors in the fifth minute on his debut in the Champions League, scored a second time before half-time (36th) and silenced the notorious stadium “De Kuip”. Further goals by Alejandro Grimaldo (30th) and an own goal by Rotterdam’s German goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther (45th) ensured a clear situation before half-time.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is looking forward to a particularly atmospheric evening of football for the Champions League opener. “It’s a big stadium, a great atmosphere and a club with a lot of history,” said the 42-year-old before the match at Feyenoord Rotterdam this Thursday (6:45 p.m./DAZN). “We’re in good form. It’s going to be a special night.”

Leverkusen are favourites to face the Dutch in the famous stadium “De Kuip”. Leverkusen’s winger Jeremie Frimpong has fond memories of the arena. “I like “De Kuip”. I scored my first goal and my first assist for the national team here,” said the Dutchman with a smile. Before the party, the 23-year-old said he received numerous requests for tickets. “Most of my family lives in Amsterdam, but many want to come,” he said.
