Ted Danson may have broken a TV record with his latest sitcom

It is difficult to imagine a time when Ted Danson was not on television. After all, he played Sam Malone for 11 seasons in Cheerssix years as Dr. John Becker at Beckerand more recently he took on the role of a 1,800 meter tall, tentacle-armed fire demon who took the form of a 1.88 meter tall silver fox in The good place.

Not to mention the fact that he regularly appeared on Curb your enthusiasmand effortlessly mastered perhaps his biggest role to date: Ted Danson.

Now Danson is releasing a brand new show: A man inside. It sounds like the title of a self-help book by Tobias Fünke, but it is Strictly speaking a new Netflix comedy that reunites Danson with The good place And Parks and Recreation Producer Mike Schur.

A man inside is supposedly an adaptation of The Mole Agentan acclaimed 2021 documentary about a senior citizen who ends up working as a spy for a private investigator.

This new show could be a big deal for Danson, not only because it has the potential to be a hit with the “parents who use their adult children’s Netflix passwords” demographic, but because it reportedly breaks Danson’s record for starring in the most scripted television series of all time.

Accordingly ForbesDanson has surpassed the record previously held by the late Robert Urich, star of shows such as Spenser: For rent And SWATwith this his thirteenth recurring role in a television show. Yes, it is easy to forget that Danson has starred in short-lived sitcoms such as ink (together with his wife Mary Steenburgen) and Help me to help you, as well as dramatic twists in shows like Damage And CSI: A case for the CSI family.

And of course, Danson played the lead role in the unfortunately underrated HBO comedy-mystery series Bored to death, alongside Jason Schwartzman and Zach Galifianakis.

In contrast to Forbes‘ claim that Danson is now the record holder, some have claimed that Urich’s record from fifteen TV showswhich would mean that Danson is still close to winning the Love Boat: The Next Wave Star. Forbes himself had previously reported that Urich’s The magic number to beat was 14. Although this number also includes television miniseries such as Lonely pigeon.

Others have suggested that Urich played important roles in only 12 serieswhich would means that Danson won the record. Reviewing his creditsI count 13 TV series in which Urich appeared regularly. Maybe some people don’t count the sitcom Emeril Lagasse Emerilsimply because they try hard to forget that it ever existed.

So maybe Danson and Urich are tied? If so, Danson only needs to do one more show to break the record once and for all. Unless ABC decides to reboot Spenser: For rent with a CGI Robert Urich.
