Elon Musk condemned an illegal street takeover in Philadelphiawhich authorities said was sparked by a series of aggressive street races over the weekend.

Philadelphia police said the incidents occurred between 9:30 p.m. Saturday evening and 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning at several locations in the city. Large crowds and 50 to 200 vehicles gathered at each location.

Videos of the incidents showed cars driving in circles while people set off fireworks and set garbage on fire. Some clips showed mobs destroying police vehicles, including one in which people swarmed and stomped on a police car.

In the 2019 film “Joker,” the Joker is seen in the back seat of a police car as riots break out and chaos reigns in Gotham City. He is later seen standing on top of the crashed police car, surrounded by a cheering crowd.

Conservative X-influencer Joey Mannarino made another rambling pop culture reference.

“Philadelphia now basically looks like a game of Grand Theft Auto. It’s just sad that we’ve allowed the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed to become this,” he said.

Elon Musk says the chaos in Philadelphia reminds him of the dystopian film “The Joker.”

“They physically attacked some of our officers,” Philadelphia Deputy Police Commissioner Mike Cram told reporters during a news conference Monday, citing the mob’s “aggressiveness.”

“There are police officers in the car, they jump on the windshield. They cause physical harm.” said Cram. “They don’t care about your safety, their own safety. If you’ve all seen the videos of their behavior, they really don’t care. It’s all about how much chaos we can cause.”

Cram described officers as being “trapped” in the car as the mob harassed the patrol unit, adding that police were “definitely targeted” during the night’s incidents.
