Joey Badass becomes Artist in Residence at the NYU Clive Davis Institute

Joey Badass has been named the new artist in residence at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, making him one of the youngest to ever hold the position at age 29. On Tuesday (September 24), the school announced that the Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, will be holding master classes and lectures on a variety of topics from music making and songwriting to film and television during the current fall semester.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge with the students and am sure I will learn a lot from them as well,” Badass shared. diversity“I am passionate about building community across all sectors and this is another wonderful step in that journey.”

Nicholas Sansano, Chair of the Clive Davis Institute, added: “We are delighted to have Joey as our guest. We believe that the current economic model of the music industry does not allow creatives to pursue a single activity as their sole source of income and sustainable relevance.”

He continued, “Joey, the multifaceted artist, songwriter, actor and social activist, can bring this all-too-real message to our students with first-hand credibility. Of equal or perhaps even greater importance is his commitment to the mentorship and holistic health of young, aspiring professionals.”

It’s the latest in a series of collaborative projects he’s been involved in throughout the year, including IDK’s “DENiM,” Conway the Machine’s “Vertino,” the KayCyy-assisted “Passports & Suitcases,” and Lyrical Lemonade’s posse cut “Fall Out.”
