Tennis News: Tennis stars puzzle over Nadal’s future: “Everyone wants to know”

How long will Rafael Nadal continue to play tennis? This is a question that the tennis world is asking itself. The Davis Cup finals would be a perfect stage for a career end.

Tennis stars Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz are eagerly awaiting a decision on the future of their long-time rival Rafael Nadal. Will the injury-plagued Spaniard end his career after this season or will he stick around for another year? “Everyone wants to know. We’re all waiting to see what happens now and we’re all kind of excited,” said Alcaraz.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner’s last appearance was at Alcaraz’s side at the Olympic Games. Nadal canceled his planned start at the Laver Cup in Berlin at short notice. The 38-year-old clay court king had already missed the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open this year.

Nadal only took part in the French Open, which he won 14 times – and lost in the first round to Zverev. “Everyone misses Rafa,” said the German.

End of career at the Davis Cup in front of home crowd?

In May of last year, Nadal had already announced that he wanted to end his illustrious career in 2024. However, he added: “I can’t say 100 percent because you never know what will happen.” But the ongoing injury problems no longer allowed for a successful comeback.

In mid-October, Nadal will play in the exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia. He is also in Spain’s squad for the Davis Cup finals in front of the home crowd in Málaga at the end of November. It could be the perfect stage for Nadal’s farewell.
