Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert conjure up an acoustic cover of Chappell Roan and praise the singer for her “courage”

Miranda Lambert revealed on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on Tuesday that her latest musical obsession is somewhat unexpected: 26-year-old Midwestern pop princess Chappell Roan.

“My brother and his husband said, ‘You have to listen to this,’ and introduced me to her music, and I was obsessed,” Lambert told Kelly Clarkson, who was gushing next to her. “And I didn’t meet her at the VMAs. I wanted to, but everything was chaotic. I just want to tell her that she is so brave. And I love everything that is authentic.”

Before launching into an acoustic cover of Roan’s hit single “Good Luck, Babe!”, Clarkson said Roan and Lambert have more in common than meets the eye.

“Her voice is amazing, the way she has such a range, the way she goes from head voice to chest voice. And her lyrics are – in terms of content, I can understand why you like them,” Clarkson said. “You’re all very similar in your writing. It’s very narrative and very funny.”

“I rewind and have to listen to it again and think, ‘Ooh, did she just say that?’ It’s so good,” Lambert agreed.

Elsewhere in her interview, which took place on an outdoor stage in Manhattan, Lambert explained why she returned to her Texas roots to record her 10th studio album, “Postcards From Texas” – now on a new record label.

“I just wanted to have a little bit of every influence I’ve ever had and for me, country is a lot of that, it’s what I live and breathe. So it was a really cool thing. It all felt really natural. It was like your gut leads you to the next step and sometimes you don’t know why or how, but you get there and you’re like, ‘This feels right.'”
