There are emotional scenes on “The Lion’s Den”: When dog trainer Florian Wienen presents his start-up, Judith Williams can no longer hold back her tears.

Cologne – The format “The Lion’s Den” has been a permanent fixture on VOX since 2014. A lot has happened in the show over the last ten years – from lucrative deals to heated discussions among investors. Another moment will definitely be remembered. The reason for this is dog trainer Florian Wienen (33), whose idea hit a sore spot with Judith Williams (53).

“Saving people’s lives”: Florian Wienen pursues an important mission

Together with his business partner Alexander Maßen (47), Florian will be standing in front of the “Lion’s Den” investors on Monday (September 23) to convince them of their start-up Dogscan. “We have founded a start-up that can definitely save people’s lives,” explains Florian in the clip. They receive support not only from their advisor and specialist Ali, but also from the cute four-legged friend Aki. Because dogs play an important role in their start-up.

Florian, who has been working as a dog trainer for over nine years, spent six years training service dogs “that specifically detect explosives and mines.” The 33-year-old now wants to use this knowledge to save lives. Dogscan is designed to create dogs “that are able to detect lung cancer cells in the very early stages using a breath sample,” explains Alexander, who lost his father to the disease. A topic that is very close to investor Judith Williams’ heart.

When Judith Williams talks about her mother, she bursts into tears

In the middle of the performance, Judith Williams turns to her colleague Carsten Maschmeyer (65) and whispers: “This is of course a very emotional topic for me.” When the investor says this sentence, tears come to her eyes. The husband of actress Veronica Ferres (59) holds her hand compassionately. While “The Lion’s Den” investors have to announce their decision, they cannot hold back their tears again. “The person you are talking about who needed this is my mom,” she explains with a trembling voice.

To explain: In November 2022, Judith Williams’ mother was diagnosed with lung cancer – a few months before her father’s death. However, the disease was “detected far too late,” said Williams in tears. After being comforted by Carsten Maschmeyer, she explains: “What you are doing is gigantic.” She then turns to Alexander and Florian with an extraordinary offer: Although she is not offering them a deal, she does offer them her cell phone number so that the entrepreneurs can always reach the 53-year-olds when they need advice. In another TV show, Judith Williams talked about the difficult time when she lost her beloved father. Sources used: VOX / “The Lion’s Den” (episode from September 23), bild.de
