Cilic wins comeback

Marin Cilic (ATP 373) has won his first ATP tournament in 3 years in Hangzhou. The 35-year-old Croatian defeated Chinese Zhang Zhizhen (ATP 43) 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (7:5) in the final. Cilic (1.98 m) and Zhang (1.93 m), who were playing against each other for the first time, relied on their height in both sets and served 18 (Cilic) and 14 aces (Zhang). Cilic last triumphed at the ATP tournament in St. Petersburg in October 2021. In the spring, the Croatian had to undergo knee surgery and quickly missed the entire season. In China, Cilic competed with a wildcard and for the first time since February at the ATP level.

Shang with historic triumph

Teenager Shang Juncheng defeated Italian Olympic bronze medalist Lorenzo Musetti 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1 in the final of the Chengdu Open. He is only the second Chinese player after Wu Yibing (tournament winner last year in Dallas) to win an ATP title. The former junior number 1 is also the youngest ATP tournament winner this season at 19 years old.
