Former Orange County judge shot himself during FBI raid on his home, sources say

Stewart Rosenwasser, a retired Orange County judge and former Orange County assistant district attorney, died today of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an FBI raid on his Campbell Hall residence, multiple official sources told News 12.

Rosenwasser was reportedly under investigation for tax evasion, and sources said agents were trying to arrest him when his Route 416 home was shot at.
News 12 first reported last week that the former official also faces a $22.5 million lawsuit alleging he took bribes last year to pursue a cryptocurrency-related case, stemming from a dispute with family members connected to an unsolved 1970s murder case in Rockland County.

The FBI issued a statement online saying the incident was an agent-involved shooting and that the FBI’s Investigative Division is currently investigating it. No further details were released.
