Xiaomi has started to provide two of its Wear OS smartwatches with a major update. There are initial reports that Wear OS 4 is available for download for the Xiaomi Watch 2 and the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro.

Xiaomi has started distributing Wear OS 4 for the Xiaomi Watch 2 (from around 100 euros on Amazon). This is evident from various reports on Reddit. There, the first users report that they have been offered the update to the new Wear OS version for download.

The update to Wear OS 4 for the Watch 2 from Xiaomi comes as quite a surprise. We currently have no official information from the manufacturer. It also seems that the new firmware version will only be distributed in some regions. However, it shows that Xiaomi is obviously willing to upgrade its smartwatch, which was released at the beginning of the year, to Wear OS 4. It was launched at the MWC 2024 in February with the already quite old Wear OS 3.5. For comparison: The current Galaxy Watch7 (from around 240 euros on Amazon) from Samsung is already delivered with Wear OS 5.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, which was released around a year ago (from around 190 euros on Amazon), is also about to make the jump to Wear OS 4. There are also initial reports from Europe on Reddit that the update is available. But this model also seems to be a sporadic distribution, as not all users who have spoken out on the platform have been able to download the update. A little patience will probably be required until Wear OS 4 is available to all owners of the Xiaomi Watch 2 (Pro).

With the update to Wear OS 4, the Xiaomi Watch 2 and the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro receive a number of new features and improvements. Among other things, the battery life is supposed to improve with the new Wear OS version, although there is no concrete evidence of this for the two Xiaomi smartwatches. However, according to Reddit, the backup function that was introduced does not seem to be making its way onto the wearables.
