Further competition for Germany: Sweden and Denmark have also officially declared their interest in jointly hosting the 2029 Women’s European Football Championship. The two associations SvFF (Sweden) and DBU (Denmark) announced that they wanted to organize the “largest” and “best-attended Women’s European Championship of all time”.

“We know how important it is to be involved in the organization of tournaments, not least to get more girls interested in football,” said SvFF President Fredrik Reinfeldt. Last Friday, the German Football Association (DFB) announced its application. In addition, the Portuguese association had already declared its interest at the beginning of September.

The associations interested in hosting the event must now submit their preliminary bid documents to UEFA by 12 March 2025, with the deadline for receipt of legal documents and additional documentation being 28 August 2025. The host is to be announced by the UEFA Executive Committee in December 2025.

Denmark hosted the Women’s European Championship for the first time in 1991, while Sweden has hosted it twice (in 2013 and 1997 with Norway). The next Women’s European Championship will take place next summer in Switzerland.
