Five trendy travel destinations for an unforgettable autumn holiday

From idyllic islands to vibrant cities: these travel destinations in Europe are particularly in demand in autumn 2024.

Enjoying summer weather again in autumn – that seems to be the motto of many holidaymakers in 2024. The tour operator TUI has already reported extremely high demand for this time of year. And the travel apps Expedia and FeWo-direkt Similar trends seem to be emerging, at least when it comes to certain sunny travel destinations. Five destinations stand out in particular due to increased interest compared to last autumn.

Milos, Greece

The Greek islands in the southern Aegean Sea – including Rhodes, Kos and Mykonos – are among the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. On average, there are 110 overnight stays per single inhabitant, according to data from the EU statistics agency Eurostat this year. However, it seems that the unknown corners of the region are also being discovered more and more by travelers. ExpediaData shows that searches for the Cycladic island of Milos have increased by 130 percent this autumn compared to last year. Interest in hotels has increased by 75 percent, while holiday homes have increased by FeWo-direkt get 120 percent more attention.

Milos is part of the southern Aegean and, like Santorini, is of volcanic origin. The island’s trademarks include its beautiful beaches, spectacular rock formations and picturesque villages with their typical whitewashed houses. It is also known as the site where the ancient statue of the Venus de Milo was found.

Montpellier, France

Montpellier in the south of France attracts visitors with its charming old town and elegant architecture. This is also reflected in the interest of holidaymakers: 90 percent more people are interested in Expedia for flights to the up-and-coming travel destination than in the previous year. There is plenty to see: including the historic university, which gives the city a youthful, dynamic character. Sights such as the Place de la Comédie and the Saint-Perre Cathedral make Montpellier a popular destination for those interested in culture. The Mediterranean climate also contributes to the city’s attractiveness and invites you to take relaxing walks and explore.

Bodrum, Türkiye

Turkey is generally considered a popular holiday destination – this is due in part to its good value for money. In autumn, interest remains unbroken: searches for hotels in Antalya are 50 percent higher than last year, and for hotels in Fethiye, according to Expedia 95 percent more clicks. The leader, however, is the classic holiday destination Bodrum: here interest increased by a whopping 245 percent. Searches for holiday homes have also increased FeWo-direkt increased by 15 percent overall.

The picturesque coastal town on the Turkish Aegean Sea attracts many tourists, especially with its white houses, lively markets and the azure sea. The historical significance of the town, once known as Halicarnassus, is also noteworthy. Here you will find the famous Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Bodrum offers a unique blend of history and modernity, making it a fascinating destination.

Corsica, France

Corsica, often referred to as the “mountains in the sea”, impresses with its spectacular landscape with rugged coastlines, dense forests and idyllic beaches. The diverse nature makes the island a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers and bathing fans. Due to its proximity to Italy, there are also some Italian influences, for example in the language or in the cuisine. Nevertheless, Corsica belongs to France, which makes the island a unique combination of both countries.

The island is also in demand this autumn: Expedia recorded 100 percent more inquiries for flights to the capital Ajaccio and 120 percent more interest in flights to Bastia in the north. Demand for hotels increased by 45 percent.

Trieste, Italy

Would you rather go to Italy in the autumn? Here, too, a new trend is emerging: Trieste, located on the north-eastern tip of the country, is receiving 105 percent more searches for flights than last year, according to Expedia The hotels have also received more attention – demand is 95 percent higher than last autumn.

The capital of the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia offers an inexpensive alternative to the tourist metropolis of Venice. The city combines cultural influences from Italy, Austria and Central Europe, reflected in the neoclassical architecture and cozy coffee houses. The lively port area and the picturesque location on the Adriatic Sea make Trieste an attractive travel destination for those interested in culture and connoisseurs.
