Man killed outside hair salon in Clinton on Saturday

A man is dead after being shot at a hair salon in Clinton over the weekend.

According to Clinton police, officers responded to a shooting at a hair salon at 1303 Beaman Street around 12:59 p.m. Saturday. When police arrived, they spotted a private vehicle taking the victim, 37-year-old Joseph Melvin of Roseboro, to Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Melvin died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

During the initial investigation, witnesses reported to police that they saw a possible suspect drive away in a dark-colored SUV. Police found the vehicle parked at 465 Bridge Road along with the suspected shooter, 31-year-old Tevin Bryant.

Police took Bryant and a woman in the car, 36-year-old Meredith Odum, to the Clinton Police Department for questioning.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown, police said. However, investigators believe it was an argument near the hair salon.
