Police identify teenager killed in shooting in southern Lubbock County

On Monday, officials identified a 17-year-old who was killed in a shooting in southern Lubbock County over the weekend that left five others injured.

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired in the 9200 block of the U.S. Highway 87 access road around 2:58 a.m., the LSO said in a statement.

When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Dalequavion Barnard York dead and five others with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Three of the injured were taken to area hospitals in private vehicles and two others were taken by ambulance.

Investigators believe that several people were at the location near several clubs when shots were fired following an altercation.

By Monday afternoon, two people had been arrested on unrelated charges.

Officials said this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public. However, other details of the shooting, including more information about the triggers of violence or descriptions of the suspects, were not immediately released. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting.
