Novak Djokovic sends a strong message to the younger tennis generation ahead of the US Open

Novak Djokovic has proven that age is just a number. 24-time Grand Slam winner has struggled against his peers and has grappled with the younger generation of players in their twenties in recent years.

Physically, the Serb has been remarkably resilient and has had very few injuries throughout his career. Thanks to this longevity, he is still an impressive force at 37 years of age and has a real chance of 25th Grand Slam Title at the upcoming US Open.

Djokovic comes from a US Open victory 2023 and has played a significant role in this year’s Grand Slams. He reached the semifinals in Australia, withdrew from Roland Garros before the quarterfinals due to injury and was the Second at Wimbledon. Remarkably, he lost in Melbourne against Jannik sinner, the 23-year-old world number oneand in London to Carlos Alcaraz, the 21-year-old takes third place.

Djokovic’s big warning to younger players

As he prepares for his debut at the 2024 US Open, Djokovic spoke about how facing younger opponents inspires him to perform at his best. “These young players are hungry and determined to play their best tennis against me and that gives me extra motivation – it awakens some kind of beast in me,” said Djokovic.

Regarding his loss to Carlos Alcaraz in 2023, he added: “For example, losing the 2023 Wimbledon final to Alcaraz hurt a lot. I consider him the most complete player I have seen in a long time. That defeat frustrated me so much that I found the energy to win in Cincinnati and then at the US Open. Having such rivals is a great opportunity for me to keep reinventing myself and give more every day.”
