New TV test winner from CHIP: This TV beats all other tests

In our complex TV measurement procedure, we use the LMK98-3 luminance and color value meter to test the TV in our test laboratory. The most important rating is the Image qualitywhich accounts for 60 percent of the final grade. We record the maximum brightness of the television, the checkerboard contrast, the maximum displayable color space size and the so-called gamma curve. We measure how good the white representation and the illumination are. We also record and evaluate at which viewing angle (horizontal and vertical) the contrast strength is halved. This indicates how stable a device’s image quality is at different viewing angles.

According to image quality, we measure the equipment the second highest weight. It accounts for 25 percent of the overall result. Here we assess the number of inputs and outputs, format support, range of functions and usability. The quality of the remote control is included in the features, as is any voice control. Additional points are awarded for a light sensor and for Ambilight.

Die : contributes 10 percent to the overall rating. We currently set all new TV sets for the SDR power consumption measurement so that they display a 10 percent white field with around 250 cd/m² brightness – this makes it easier to compare the efficiency between the devices. The calculation formula takes the screen area into account. We also measure the same scene in HDR. As a rule, you set the brightness of the TV to maximum here.

Sound qualitywhich we weight with 5 percent, is a purely subjective rating. Here we differentiate between the reproduction of male and female voices and note how loud and full the TV sounds are and whether sound artifacts such as clinking and rattling occur.
