Cancellation of tournament in Beijing

Cancellation of tournament in Beijing

Alexander Zverev, who has been suffering from health problems recently, is taking a break. The 27-year-old Olympic champion from Tokyo has cancelled his participation in the ATP tournament in Beijing. The players’ organisation has not given a reason for his mistake at the event, which begins on Thursday. Zverev had recently played in Berlin at the Laver Cup and had, among other things, problems with fever and cough.

The world number two also criticized the “unnecessarily long” ATP season and said that he was not yet able to give any precise details about his plans for the end of the season. The next event after Beijing is the Masters in Shanghai starting on October 2nd. The French Open finalist certainly has the ATP Finals in Turin (November 10th to 17th) on his list, for which he has already qualified.

It is still questionable whether he will then compete in the Davis Cup finals in Malaga. Zverev is not in the provisional squad of national coach Michael Kohlmann. However, Kohlmann is keeping a place free for his top player should the Hamburg native decide to take part.
