Matchday 7: Alemannia Aachen – SV Waldhof Mannheim – Alemannia Aachen – Forum | Page 1

Hello everyone and welcome to the 7th matchday of the season. Since the game took place tomorrow (“English week”) and my series at the beginning of the season was only ended by a Bundesliga team in the DFB Cup, I am daring to make a comeback in the league.

The facts:

  • Kick-off: Wednesday, 25 September at 7 p.m. at the Tivoli
  • TV broadcast: MagentaSport

About our opponent Waldhof Mannheim:

Mannheim finished last season in 16th place and was just able to pull itself out of trouble. This season Mannheim is again in the relegation battle and is currently in 17th place. However, they have recently gained points with a draw at relegated Rostock and a home win against Osnabrück, who were also relegated. Both opponents also started the season poorly, but perhaps it is a trend that they are on the up?
The last meeting was on May 4, 2003 (1:2 defeat in Mannheim). After the duels took place regularly in the second league from 1999 to 2003, there hasn’t been a competitive match against each other for a very long time.

About Alemannia:

The last game against BVB II was a 3-0 defeat. The red card for Rumpf and the fact that the team had to continue playing with a man down after the 0-1 certainly contributed to this. Backhaus also sees bad luck here and a result that was not really indicative of the game. It is also annoying that two scenes against Alemannia were again interpreted (foul on Hanraths before the 0-2, penalty not given after a foul on Strujic). Unfortunately, this has continued throughout the season so far.
Unfortunately, only three points were gained from the last four league games (home win against Viktoria Köln). That was not enough and it will be very exciting to see how they react to that.
For BBB and Kevin Goden, the game will be a reunion with their old colleagues after they moved from Waldhof Mannheim to Alemannia in the summer.

Setup:

I will refrain from making a prediction about the line-up, as there is potential for major changes after the recent disappointing results. It is already foreseeable that there will be changes, as Rumpf will be suspended after his red card. There are many possibilities here. Nkoa could make his debut. Yarbrough could also move to the middle and then Meyer could return to the left-half position. Perhaps Heiner will surprise us with a system change, I would not rule that out either.
In addition, Johnen will be out again and replaced by Bördner.

Table situation:

In my opinion, this is an extremely important game and I’m going into the party a little nervous. The trend at Alemannia is not so great at the moment and it feels like the number of points is too low at the moment. A home win would give them some breathing room before the difficult away game in Dresden and they could stay in the midfield. A defeat would see Mannheim overtake Alemannia and, depending on how the other games turn out, Alemannia could slip right into the relegation battle. With the difficult away game that follows, that could also mean that the relegation battle will be a constant topic for the next few weeks and maybe even months. I really hope that we can avoid that, because we really can’t afford any unrest.

The SV Waldhof Mannheim forum is not very busy, but if anyone wants to take a look, here is the link to the thread for match days.
