Those protesting against the death of the accused from Badlapur are part of the ‘Tukde-Tukde’ gang, says Dushyant Gautam

New Delhi, September 24 (IANS): BJP general secretary Dushyant Gautam reacted to the heated political debate over the death of the accused in the Badlapur rape case, who was shot by the police in revenge.

Akshay Shinde – the main accused in the sensational rape case of two kindergarten girls in Badlapur in August – met a bloody end on Monday evening after a shootout with police in an encounter that sent shockwaves in political circles.

To this, Gautam replied, “If someone takes the law into his hands, then the law will do its job, then the police will do their job. But the question arises, do those who are speaking out on this issue justify that the rapist of a five-year-old girl should not be punished for his crime?”

“It is obvious to me that they are protesting just for the sake of protesting. They are on the side of the criminals, they are on the side of the traitors, they are on the side of the enemies of the nation because that is their mindset and their views,” he told IANS.

The BJP leader claimed that those protesting against the police action in self-defence were part of a “tukde-tukde” gang whose sole aim was to divide the country.

“They are on the side of the ‘Tukde-Tukde’ gang. That is why they are keen to work to support criminals. However, under our government, no criminal will be spared. If a criminal takes the law into his own hands, the police will do their job,” he added.

Earlier on Monday, Akshay Shinde reportedly snatched the gun from Sub-Inspector Nilesh More while travelling somewhere in the Thane police jurisdiction and fired at him and himself, but the other police officials returned fire, seriously injuring him.

Akshay Shinde was critically injured in the shooting, while More suffered at least one gunshot wound to his limb.

Although Akshay Shinde was taken to Kalwe government hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis said, confirming that he died from a police firing in self-defence.

The MVA leaders launched a fierce attack on the MahaYuti government and raised serious questions about the circumstances that led to this horrific incident.

They jointly demanded an investigation by a special investigation team or the CBI into the incident, which occurred in Chief Minister Shinde’s home district on a day when India’s Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was in Mumbai on official business.

The opposition bigwigs of Maharashtra were clamoring to know “whether this was a planned conspiracy and an attempt to destroy evidence”. They wanted to protect those allegedly linked to the BJP-RSS in this sordid affair and wanted the case to be handed over to the CBI.

On August 12 and 13, Akshay Shinde allegedly sexually abused two minor girls aged three and six, who were attending pre-school, in the washroom premises of the Adarsh Vidya Prasarak Sanstha (AVPS).
