Suspected perpetrator involved in the murder of two RPF policemen killed in an encounter with STF

Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh) [India]September 24 (ANI): Mohammad Zahid alias Sonu, a criminal wanted in connection with the murder of two Railway Protection Force (RPF) policemen, was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Special Task Force (STF) Unit Noida Kotwali Gahmar and GRP Dildarnagar Police in Ghazipur on Monday.

A bounty of Rs 100,000 was placed on Zahid’s head. During the gunfight between police and Zahid and another suspect, Zahid sustained serious injuries and was later declared dead at a district hospital in Ghazipur on Tuesday. The other suspect managed to escape from the scene. During the operation, authorities recovered an illegal .32 caliber pistol, two empty .32 caliber cartridges and a bag containing illegal liquor.

The two railway security constables were killed on the Guwahati Express on the night of August 19-20 while they were trying to smuggle illegal liquor. The bodies of the two railway security constables were subsequently dumped on the tracks. Ghazipur Police Commissioner Iraj Raja said Sonu was killed in an encounter with police after he fired at and injured the policemen. “One of the prime suspects in the case, Mohammad Zahid, was pursued to a location near Dildar Nagar. He was surrounded by a joint team of Noida STF, GRP and Ghazipur police, during which he opened fire on two policemen. In the ensuing gunfight, he sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a district hospital where doctors declared him dead. Besides, several other persons involved in illegal liquor trade are currently being investigated by the police,” Ghazipur Police Commissioner Iraj Raja told the media. (ANI)
