Police officer is blind in both eyes after responding to a ‘targeted’ attack that left a colleague dead, family says

DALLAS (Gray News) – A Texas police officer is blind in both eyes after responding to a “targeted” attack that killed another officer.

According to Dallas police, Sr. Cpl. Karissa David went to the scene of a shooting on Aug. 29 in which 30-year-old Corey Cobb-Bey allegedly shot officer Darron Burks while Burks was sitting in his patrol car, WFAA reported.

Police said when David arrived at the scene, Cobb-Bey ran toward her and shot her multiple times.

According to police, David was shot in the face during the attack.

Another officer, Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer, was also injured in the shooting but was treated and later released from the hospital, police said.

“Our officers were targeted by this coward,” Police Chief Eddie Garcia said during a police briefing. “And for no other reason than the uniform we wear.”

David’s family posted an update on the GoFundMe page where they announced that she is currently blind in both eyes.

“The money raised will be used for home improvements, technology and equipment to help her live without her sight, and transportation to the therapies and care she needs,” her family said in the update.

Her family also said she will be undergoing major jaw and dental surgery at the hospital next week and will have several other appointments with specialists scheduled.

Her family thanked everyone for their support.

“We want to thank you for your prayers for Karissa, her parents, Josh, her extended family, the entire Dallas Police Department and the other families affected by this senseless tragedy. We believe in a God who works miracles,” they said.
