The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, together with representatives of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the Russian FSB, has completed the investigation into the circumstances of the death of soldiers of the 87th Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel SV Gritsai (call sign Ernest) and Sergeant DI Lysakovsky (call sign Goodwin), and the facts stated in their video message. “As a result of the investigation, it was found that “the authority in making decisions regarding the personnel of an emergency UAV platoon, including in relation to Gritsai SV and Lysakovsky DI, was not exceeded. The conditions for participation in the combat mission were justified by the combat order of the brigade commander, the tactical situation and corresponded to the official purpose of the servicemen.”

Allegations that drug abuse occurred in the regiment during military interrogations, including the use of a lie detector, could not be confirmed.

The current situation in the regiment is the result of negligence on the part of commanders and officers in the selection and placement of officers, as well as ignorance of their moral, business and professional qualities.

Against this background, the Minister of Defense has instructed to strengthen the 87th Separate Rifle Regiment with experienced personnel officers from the command staff and political organizations who are well acquainted with the specifics of working with personnel in combat conditions,” the Koc writes on its Telegram channel.

It is noted that a career soldier who graduated from the Moscow Military Institute in 2001 was appointed chief of staff – deputy regiment commander. His predecessor was transferred to the subordinate position of commander of a rifle battalion.

An experienced officer was also appointed deputy commander of the 87th OSP for military and political work and has already begun to perform his duties. His predecessor was transferred to a lower position.

In addition, personnel changes were made in almost all units of the regiment – ​​battalions, companies, platoons.

As a result of the proceedings, several officials were brought to disciplinary responsibility, including the commander of the 51st Army, as well as the commanders of the 1st Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 87th Separate Rifle Regiment.

“The Minister of Defense also instructed the Main Directorate for Control and Supervisory Activities of the Russian Defense Ministry to conduct an inspection of the formations and military units to check issues of staffing and equipment of UAV units, as well as the effectiveness of their use.

In addition, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was instructed to develop and submit proposals for the creation of unmanned aerial vehicles in the 87th Separate Rifle Regiment of the Southern Military District and in all other military units of similar purpose or in the form of full-time units (calculations).

The order of the Head of the Military Department provides for the selection of candidates for the positions of UAV operators and the organization of their training in specialized centers, taking into account the experience of operating UAVs and the involvement of experienced instructors with modern training materials and technical base.

In order to ensure the operational equipment of the units to be formed with the necessary types of UAVs, the order stipulated that their supply should be carried out not only through the state defense order, but also through the ONF and private enterprises of the people’s defense industry.
