Video shows woman run over by ex while daughter watched after argument over son: Sheriff

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Edwin Amaya was driving his Ford F-250 on Saturday, September 14, when it struck 29-year-old Brenda Hernandez Amaya, the mother of his two-year-old son.

As the NBC affiliate in South Florida reported WTVJAn investigation by detectives revealed that an argument had broken out between the two parents over their child shortly before Amaya got into his truck and allegedly “intentionally” drove into Hernandez Amaya, pushing her against another car.

According to authorities, the incident did not end there, as Amaya allegedly repeatedly drove into nearby parked cars, injuring another man, Hernandez Amaya’s husband, Omar Mungaia-Henrique, who tried to stop the vehicle.

Both Hernandez Amaya and Mungala-Henrique were taken to the hospital, where Hernandez Amaya succumbed to her injuries and died. Speaking to WTVJ, Hernandez Amaya’s family said she leaves behind three children.

Hernandez Amaya’s daughter told police she watched the whole thing from above. “I couldn’t cry. I couldn’t speak. I ran down the stairs and started running,” she said, according to WTVJ.

Deputies also reported that the entire scene was recorded on cell phone video, according to Fox affiliate WSVN. The video, provided to the outlet, shows the moments before the fatal collision. “He said he wanted to kill all the people that were there,” the daughter continued.

Authorities were told that Hernandez Amaya, her husband and family were out for dinner on Saturday night when the argument broke out.

“He said he was going to drive away. He came to my mother. My mother fell down. When my mother fell down, he drove backwards and my mother got stuck in the wheel,” Hernandez Amaya’s daughter explained the tragic incident, almost taking the reporters’ breath away.

According to the sheriff, Amaya fled the scene, but officers were able to track him down and arrest him. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder.

According to WSVN, Amaya was denied bail at a court hearing the following Tuesday. Court records on Amaya showed a 2018 arrest for domestic violence against another woman, according to the source.
