Hasbrouck Heights man charged in April car crash that killed 15-year-old in Ridgefield

A Hasbrouck Heights man has been charged in connection with the fatal April 14 traffic crash that killed 15-year-old Serenity Law of Ridgefield, according to a statement from the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office.

On April 14, at approximately 7:37 p.m., Ridgefield Police responded to a fatal car crash involving a scooter at Shaler Boulevard and Edgewater Avenue in Ridgefield.

A Chevrolet Silverado driven by Timothy C. Moots, 61, of Hasbrouck Heights, collided with Law’s electric scooter, prosecutors said.

A joint investigation by the Bergen County District Attorney’s Office and Ridgefield Police Department found that Moots “made misleading statements to law enforcement in an attempt to downplay his involvement and to complicate and obstruct the investigation of the collision.”
