Kyle Chandler to play Hal Jordan in the DCU series

Kyle Chandler to play Hal Jordan in the DCU series

Although his name was not mentioned along with Josh Brolin, Ewan McGregor, Matthew McConaughey and Chris Pine when the (rumored) candidates were announced earlier this month, Kyle Chandler has reportedly co-starred in DC Studios’ upcoming Lanterns Series.

Accordingly DeadlineChandler (Bloodline, Catch 22, Friday Night Lights) is currently in talks for the role of experienced Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who will take new recruit John Stewart under his wing.

We also have some new plot details, as the story is said to focus on “John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops, are drawn into a dark Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the heartland of America.”

Casting is currently underway for a younger actor to play Stewart.

Stephen Williams (Lost, Watchmen, Westworld) is reportedly in talks to direct the pilot episode, and Lucy Tcherniak is rumored to be in negotiations to direct an undisclosed number of episodes.

Emmy Award-winning Lost And Guardian Creator Damon Lindelof is working on the pilot script together with Ozarks Showrunner Chris Mundy and comic book writer Tom King. Justin Britt-Gibson, Breannah Gibson and Vanessa Baden Kelly are also said to be on board (although this has not yet been confirmed).

Production on Lanterns is currently scheduled to begin production in the UK in the first quarter of 2025, potentially bringing the show to theatres in 2026.

Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who made his debut in Gunn’s Superman Reboot, is expected to have a supporting role in the series.

A previous Green Lantern The television series was already in the works before Gunn and Safran took over as DC Studios directors. This version was created by Greg Berlanti and would have had Finn Wittrock play the role of Guy Gardner.

Hal Jordan was previously played by Ryan Reynolds in the infamous 2011 film Green Lantern Film.

THR’s Borys Kit shared the following update, which suggests Chandler will not make the jump to the big screen.

What do you think of this casting? Do you think Chandler is a good choice for the role of Hal Jordan? Let us know in the comments section below.

“This is the story of two Green Lanterns, John Stewart and Hal Jordan.” Gunn said about the project when it was first announced. “We’ve got a few other Lanterns sprinkled in, but this is really a terrestrial TV show that’s almost like True Detective, with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops policing Earth precinct, uncovering a terrifying secret that ties into our biggest story in the DCU.”
