Official release window for Dark Winds Season 3

AMC Networks is already well into production of Dark Winds Season 3 and one of its stars have spoken out about the first official release window.

Dark Winds has recently seen renewed interest after Season 1 was released on Netflix, introducing the psychological thriller to a new audience.

When will season 3 of Dark Winds be released?

Per variety, Dark Winds has been officially renewed for Season 3 in September 2023 with plans to debut in “Early 2025.” As production on the third installment wrapped, star Kiowa Gordon offered an official release window.

Responding to an Instagram post comment, Gordon confirmed: “Season 3 is coming next year.” This is the first official release window for Dark Winds‘ next episodes, after Variety gave a rough estimate in its report on the renewals.

A release in early 2025 will mark a departure from Dark Winds‘ usual release schedule, as the previous seasons debuted in summer 2022 and 2023.

This makes 2024 the first year since the series began without a new season of Dark Windspossibly due to the impact of last year’s writers’ strike on writing.

Filming for season 2 was completed in March 2023 before premiering four months later in July. AMC also confirmed that season 3 “Filming almost finished” in July. Production is likely either complete or close to completion, which, based on the window from completion to Season 2 release, could point to an early 2025 premiere.

What will happen in season 3 of Dark Winds?

Dark Winds Season 3 will focus on the disappearance of two boys, six months after the last finale. Chee and Leaphron have only a bicycle and a bloodstain to aid their investigation, making this one of their most challenging yet.

After Season 2, Valencia County Sheriff Gordo Sena vacated his position, creating the opportunity for someone new to step in. He suggested that Joe Leaphorn take the job, and despite his initial disinterest, that might change in Season 3.

Plus, Bernadette is now on her way to a new job with the Border Patrol after kissing Chee goodbye. Only time will tell if she ever returns from the border to rekindle their romance.

The season’s logline also confirmed that she will be investigating drug and human trafficking, which will potentially have far-reaching consequences. Perhaps that will ultimately tie her into the mystery being investigated by Leaphron and Chee.

Dark Winds Season 3 will premiere in 2025.
