Daria Wächter and Michael Klinkov unbeatable

Daria Wächter and Michael Klinkov unbeatable

Win. The sunny late summer weather spread charm at the 8th Open Siegen Tennis City Championships for the BMW Cup, which was endowed with 1000 euros in prize money and many non-cash prizes. For more than a week, top-class sport was on display in the Leimbachtal at the TC Siegen facility. 160 participants swung their rackets in ten competition classes and the audience interest was huge, especially on the final day.

This fits in with the general boom that TC Siegen is currently experiencing as the largest tennis club in the region with 350 members. “The trend is even pointing upwards. “The tennis school and above all the many activities in the social environment promote cohesion and harmony between the generations,” emphasises Julian Schmitz, one of the younger members of the board. “The young people like Frederic Würden and Julian Schmitz organised the tournament brilliantly together with our chairwoman Barbara Meixner,” said Karin Gard from Eisern, who has been a long-standing club member.

Klinkov dreams of a professional career

Because the conditions were right, the players were able to concentrate on their performances. In the final of the men’s top class, Jimmy Reinsch from Eichen gave his all to defeat the favorite Michael Klinkov and collect the prize money of 300 euros. But the 21-year-old had previously been injured in the mixed doubles and was therefore no longer at full capacity in the singles final. After a brief slump, Klinkov therefore had an easy game and secured the first set with a 6:2 win through pronounced angle play before Reinsch had to give up.

Klinkov from Canada is celebrating another success and has not yet completely given up on the subject of “professionalism”. “It will be difficult. But I would like to study at an American college like André Dutiné in order to raise my tennis to a higher level. Maybe I will improve in the four years leading up to my bachelor’s degree,” said the 18-year-old, who has had to reduce his tennis training for school reasons over the past three years but is trying to maintain his level with an ambitious fitness program. Klinkov wants to get started again in the USA.

Wächter hardly gives up a game

In the top women’s class, where only 14 to 18-year-old junior players were registered, Daria Wächter from Weidenau (No. 362 in the German women’s rankings), who plays for Rot-Weiß Hagen in the women’s association league, left no doubt as to who would win the main prize money. She was in a class of her own. She played her workload with complete composure and had a precise sense of when to hit the decisive balls. In four matches, no opponents were able to win more than one game per set against the 16-year-olds.

In addition to the individual classes, the doubles competitions were the highlight of the Leimbachtal. Here, the fun factor was particularly evident on the participants’ faces. – A look at the results:
